Farmwork in Perth Hills

So we haven’t updated on here for a while, since we have actually been back in Europe for nearly three weeks and we have been busy working. We had both missed our family and friends A LOT, so it was really nice to catch up after almost 9 months away. We chose not to tell anyone but a few, so a lot of people were really surprised, when we were suddenly home.

However, I, Line, must admit I missed Australia, our home (the car) and Paul and I was looking forward to come back. Although, I had a bit of a frustrating and depressing feeling, when I was thinking about our situation in Australia, once we would come back. The thing is, we are under very much pressure trying to finish our 88 days of farm work. So far we have worked almost 44 days, so we still have 40 days to go, and our visas are running out in the early start of January.

Luckily, we were able to start working shortly after we returned to Australia. I found a job for us through Facebook, when I was desperately trying to find vineyards, orchards, fruit farms, grain farms etc., that had available jobs. I contacted numerous companies, that had no work, but then I was lucky to find an orchard, that was actually willing to employ us for a few weeks. It wasn’t supposed to be more than two weeks, but now we have been there three weeks – so we are very happy about that! At this farm we are thinning stonefruit trees 40 hours a week. It’s a great place to work, since we decide ourselves when we want to start in the morning and when we are taking our breaks. We are trying to make the best out of an otherwise monotone job and we are getting through the days with radio, good music and talks.

We are currently living at a caravan park in Perth Hills just 10 minutes from our work, which is really convenient. We work five days a week, so we have the weekends off. Lucky for us it has been really good weather on the weekends, like around 30 degrees and above, so we have been hanging out by the campground pool quite a lot, but we have also been to Fremantle and Perth city and had a look around there. In Northbridge, we found some really cool bars last time we went out. But, we are also aiming not to spend too much money on our days off, since we really need to save up money for our further travels – which can be tough…

However, we are desperately trying to finish our 88 days, so we can apply for a second year visa AND have money to travel around Australia afterwards. Its been a long way to fulfilling my dream of exploring WA already, but we’ll get there eventually, I know it!
