How we celebrated Christmas

This year is the first time I, Line, didn’t spend Christmas with my family. I actually thought it was gonna be a lot harder than it was, being away from your family and not doing the stuff, you’re used to do. But Paul and I actually had a really cool and cozy Christmas.

We both usually celebrate Christmas on the 24th of December, so ofcourse thats what we did down here as well. We had a week off from the work, we were doing at the time, so we headed down south. We were actually supposed to be camping, but while we were on the road on the 23rd, Paul had the idea of booking a few nights at a nice hotel. So we found a room last minute at this nice little cottage called Sienna Lodge in Yallingup. We booked three nights here, so naturally we were gonna spend Christmas here as well.

On the 24th we woke up and walked just next door to the cutest little cafe called Cape Lavender Tea House. They serve AMAZING lavender scones and lavender tea – and a lot more than that. We were so stoked about them and if it hadn’t been closed the day after, we definitely would have gone again. If you’re on the road to Margaret River, you’ll most likely pass it and you should definitely consider stopping by.

After our great little breakfast, we tried to find “The Aquarium”, which is a rock pool located between Smiths beach and Canal Rocks in Yallingup. Beforehand, we had a little swim on Smiths beach, which was actually quite a nice beach.

From the very last car park at Smiths beach we had a walk on the rocks, because we initially thought that was the way to the Aquarium. As you can see on the last photo, we were still quite far from there when we reached the top of a hill, so we decided to go back to the car and drive closer.

We struggled quite a bit finding out how to get to the Aquarium without too much of a walk, and we ended up finding out, that we had to park at a small parking spot on the right hand side just before the big parking spot at Canal Rocks. From here it’s just a small 500 meter walk down to the Aquarium.

However, we were recommended to visit this place by a few friends that had seen it on Instagram. Unfortunately, it was not as great as it might look in some insta-photos. It was alright, we had it all to ourselves, but it was a bit of struggle just entering the water, because of all the stones on the bottom. Rock pools are cool though, but I think you can find some that are just as nice and less known in other places.

In the afternoon we went back to our room at Sienna Lodge and carried everything we needed for dinner to the garden. I had planned that we were gonna eat some traditional Danish Christmas food, which Paul didn’t mind, since he doesn’t connect any special foods with Christmas, like I do. So I spent a few hours making roasted vegetarian duck on our BBQ, caramelized potatoes and red cabbage salad.

Christmas Day and Boxing day we spent driving around in the area. We went had lunch in Boranup forest, went to an amazing bakery in Margaret River, walked down the Busselton Jetty and swimmed at Meelup Beach. Meelup beach is the one you see pictured above here. The beach was amazing, completely turquoise water with only sand on the bottom. The only downside was the crazy amount of people that had the same idea as us that day.

We had a great few days down south and we would definitely love to go back, once we’re done working and start travelling around Australia again.
